TRUE LOVE WAITS

True Love Waits is not simply another Bible study for students on the topic of sex and virginity. It is a summons for the next generation of students to understand their sexuality in light of the gospel. When students realize how the gospel impacts their purity, their lives will be changed from the inside out. Once students pursue Christ through their sexual purity, they will demonstrate to the world around them that Jesus is the ultimate destination and desire of their hearts. Twenty years ago a small group of students in the Nashville area in USA committed themselves to Christ in the pursuit of purity. Little did they know that shortly thereafter there were going to be thousands of additional students join them in what came to be known as the movement of True Love Waits. Over the years True Love Waits has witnessed hundreds of thousands of young people commit their sexual purity to God, while at the same time offering the promise of hope and restoration in Christ for all who have

RAISING MEN, NOT BOYS

Discipleship is a sexual issue. By this I mean it cannot be blind to gender. Our spiritual growth takes place within a male or female body so at some point we are led to consider the question: What does it look like, not simply to be a godly individual, but a godly male or female? What follows is a general overview of some of the current principles being taught in male discipleship as well as my own thoughts and synthesis from years of discipling men. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to speak to some men in our region. There were more than 250 guys in the room. We were seated in a coliseum setting with a table strategically placed in the middle. Many were in groups from their schools wondering what was in store for them. Most were expecting a talk of some sort, but few were ready for what took place. I stepped into the middle of the coliseum as an announcer does, preparing to describe the fight. With a loud, booming voice I called out to the men, igniting their passion

TOP 10 COMEDIANS OF ALL TIME

Image
Hilarious clean comedy for the family I thought I would share my opinion of the 10 funniest Christian stand up comedians. What’s great about watching christian comedy is it’s clean and you can watch with your entire family. The list includes comedians Tim Hawkins, Chonda Pierce, Michael Junior, Ken Davis, Taylor Mason,  Brad Stine, Rich Praytor, Thor Ramsey, Jeff Allen and Aaron Wilburn. They were the funniest in the Christian comedy genre. If you haven’t watched Christian comedians before these guys will have you rolling. Benefits of Laughter This is Hilarious Christian humor at its best and the genre is only getting better all the time. It’s important to exercise our facial muscles and in Proverbs 17:22 it says, A merry heart doeth good [like] medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. One of laughters benefits is believed to include oxygenation of the blood, a bolstering of the immune system through heightened T-cell activity and reduction in stress hormo

Telling people to be themselves is wonderful advice... unless they actually try to take it. Telling people to be themselves is wonderful advice – unless they actually try to take it. Try it sometime. Try to be the real you – the authentic self that truly defines you. Where do you look for this version of yourself? How do you know when you’ve found it? And how can you tell when you are being “true to yourself”? Before interviews or first dates or the first day of school, we love to tell people to just “be yourself.” But what if the whole modern idea of being yourself is based on a myth – a lovely, popular, inspiring myth, but a myth nonetheless? Even worse, what if this myth doesn’t make us better people, but rather we become more self-absorbed and less confident in the process? Getting Lost Trying to Find Yourself Here’s the myth: you have a single, specific, unique, special identity called your “Self” buried inside you under all your insecurities, your conformity to societ

“You sold yourself to Satan. Walk like me if you want to live," Jesus said to him in a vision. These are strong opening words for a man of God who has been to Hell and back more than once. This is a man who has been shot multiple times, survived a bullet to the back of the head, been left for dead and made it out of gang genocide still alive in a fashion that would have you thinking this story is the plot for an action/crime thriller. This is the story of former high-ranking Bloods member, now ministering emcee, King Dav$d, a.k.a. The Green Eyes. To say that David had a rough upbringing would be a stretch. Growing up in Lincoln Park, San Diego, California, David was exposed to gang violence, poverty, and destruction. His father was murdered in Compton, and his mother was killed when he was nine. He was then made a ward of the state because of the abuse he suffered from his mother’s lesbian lover in the household. According to David, his mother left the church and

RUSSIA'S BAN ON EVANGELISM

Russia's Ban on Evangelism Is Now in Effect But how strictly will it be enforced? Last week, Russia’s new anti-terrorism laws, which restrict Christians from evangelizing outside of their churches, went into effect. The “Yarovaya package” requires missionaries to have permits, makes house churches illegal, and limits religious activity to registered church buildings, among other restrictions. Individuals who disobey could be fined up to $780, while organizations could be fined more than $15,000. Forum 18 offers an analysis of the laws and their ramifications for Protestants and other non-Orthodox believers. World Watch Monitor compiled the worried reactions of Russian evangelical leaders and concerned observers. The new laws will “create conditions for the repression of all Christians,” wrote Russia’s Baptist Council of Churches in an open letter. “Any person who mentions their religious view or reflections out loud or puts them in writing, without the relevant do

HOW TO LOVE THE HARD LOVE

Image
If you’re like me, then you probably have people in your life who rub you the wrong way. You know who I’m talking about. In fact, a short (or long) list of particular individuals is likely coming to mind right now. Maybe it’s the neighbor whose rudeness and negativity drags you down or the course mate who gets on your nerves. Perhaps every time you’re near this friend-of-a-friend you sense the vibe that she’d rather you not be there (for reasons that escape you, of course). It’s probable that these people live very different lives, and your personalities don’t mesh well.  And that’s okay, right? I’m a non-confrontational person. I typically try to deal with these sorts of relationships through a) avoidance or b) exchanging surface-level pleasantries when avoidance isn’t an option. But God has placed everyone in our life for a purpose. We need to seek and know God’s will in order to live a life worthy and pleasing to Him. Hebrews 11:6 says, “It is impossible to please God without

SEX AND THE SEARCH FOR INTIMACY

Image
LEARN HOW TO LOVE AND BE LOVED TOO.  Dr. Henry Brandt, in the Collegiate Challenge magazine, said that there is a syndrome, a pattern, when couples come to him. They say, "At first, sex was exciting. Then I started feeling funny about myself, and then I started feeling funny about my partner. We argued and fought and finally we broke up. Now we are enemies." This syndrome is what I call the morning-after syndrome. We wake up and find that intimacy is not really there. The sexual relationship does not satisfy us anymore, and what we end up with is not what we really wanted in the first place. All you have is two self-centered people seeking self-satisfaction. The elements of genuine love and intimacy cannot be obtained "instantly," and you find yourself in an unbalanced state, searching for harmony. Intimacy means more than the physical. Each of us has five significant parts in our lives. We have the physical, the emotional, the mental, the social, and the

THREE PROOFS THAT JESUS IS THE GREAT PHYSICIAN

Healed by His Wounds Isaiah the prophet wrote about Christ that “upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5b). So by God’s sovereignty, He chooses whom He will heal, when He will heal them, and in what manner. This verse is by no means an excuse to never see a doctor because someone has said, “You don’t have enough faith since you’re going to the doctor,” which I have actually heard people say. Some cultic religions believe that going to the doctor is evil, and some have died due to their belief. But even Luke was a physician, and Jesus plainly said,  “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick” (Mark 2:17). The Prayers of the Righteous James wrote that Christians should “ confess [their] sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16). We can pray for those who are sick among us. In our small community

Add caption Here are five things that the Bible tells us will happen before Jesus returns. A Falling Away The Apostle Paul clearly tells us that “the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared” (1 Timothy 4:1-2). There has undoubtedly been a falling away from the faith; just look at plummeting church attendance. But there is also a falling away from the truth of the Bible with manmade doctrines that have distorted and twisted Scripture to fit what false teachers/pastors/prophets believe. This is a falling away from the truth of God and falling into error, and many are being led astray. Increase of Lawlessness Paul also wrote that “the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kil

FOUR AWESOME CHANGES THAT COMES FROM READING YOUR BIBLE EVERYDAY

Here are four awesome changes that come from reading your Bible every single day. Regeneration by the Word The most potent of all changes that come from the Word of God is that of being born again, as Paul reminded the Corinthians, “ Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain ” (1 Corinthians 15:1-2). Peter puts it as plain as day by writing, “ Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God ”(1 Peter 1:22-23). How clear it is when Peter says, “ You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God .” Every single day, thousands and thousands are being
