Self-Destruction

Man's inability to free himself from what is injurious to him makes us wonder. Many people take pleasure in what destroys them: tobacco, alcohol, drugs, fornication, excess of all kinds; their misdeeds and health risk involved are well-known. But either one cannot, or one will abandon what was originally a pleasure, and it has soon become an addiction. Very often any advice has no effect on behavior, and the results are disastrous.

What applies to the physical domain is also true of the spiritual  plane. By wrongdoing, we not only do wrong: we also destroy ourselves.
The obstinate inclination of our nature together with our inability to free ourselves from them are made clear by the Word of God. The prophet Jeremiah (ch. 7v24 )said, "They did not obey or incline their ear, but follow the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward".

Refusing to listen to God and turning to Him to receive the deliverance he offers leads to eternal life. God invites us to hear Him and simply accepts what He tell us for our present and eternal happiness.

"Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it "(Luke 11v28 ). Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame" (Romans 10v11 ). " Come to me, hear and your soul shall live" (Isaiah 55v3)
