Self-Destruction

Man's inability to free himself from what is injurious to him makes us wonder. Many people take pleasure in what destroys them: tobacco, alcohol, drugs, fornication, excess of all kinds; their misdeeds and health risk involved are well-known. But either one cannot, or one will abandon what was originally a pleasure, and it has soon become an addiction. Very often any advice has no effect on behavior, and the results are disastrous. What applies to the physical domain is also true of the spiritual  plane. By wrongdoing, we not only do wrong: we also destroy ourselves. The obstinate inclination of our nature together with our inability to free ourselves from them are made clear by the Word of God. The prophet Jeremiah (ch. 7v24 )said, "They did not obey or incline their ear, but follow the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward". PEEVISH CHRISTIANS

Christian peevishness is an oxymoron, but unfortunately the title fits.Because the problem is so pervasive today, I’ve spoken about it at length in other places along with identifying a solution.But so many of God’s people today are profoundly peevish and so easily offended. Like it or not, these are marks of spiritual immaturity. Are you quick to take offense when you hear or read something that goes against your views or is stated differently from the way you would state it? Do you read the worst possible motives into what others say or write? Do you whine and complain when you see or read something you feel is inappropriate? (I’m not talking about profanity.) Do you draw your sword when someone says or writes something that rubs you the wrong way? If you intend to influence people with the life of Christ, you cannot afford to have thin skin.
